Carp in the cold - Eliška Havelková I.

01-11-2024 - Each of us has our comfort zone elsewhere. But they say that the right angler will not be deterred by any conditions, not even the coldest days of winter expeditions.

RAPID boilies

In today's article, I would like to tell you about my several-day adventure. Since I was picked up every year during high school, I usually ended the season around November. But I wanted to find out where my ceiling is and what the winter fishing is like. So I decided to stick to the rules, the carp season never ends!

The end of November was really cold and although I got some sunshine during the day, the morning temperatures showed minus seven degrees below zero. A person who is not used to camping or staying outdoors for a long time would say that we are crazy. But I am of the opinion that if I dress well and can keep myself dry, after a few hours the body will get used to the cold and the next day it will be relatively warm.

It's easy to say to stay dry when we're fishermen, for me it's probably the biggest art that I have to train for next winter. :) In these deep frosts, even hunting tactics need to be adapted. I often come across the opinion that the colder it is, the smaller the boilie diameters should be. I don't agree with this theory, but I certainly don't reject it. What carp is a subjective opinion, in short, something different works for each of us with a bit of luck. All season long, I fish with 24 mm diameter boilies of the chosen flavor.

I usually combine them with a 20mm boilie that I use for baiting purposes. I received information from a local guy that I had just arrived. The strong wind barely blew away the ice coating on the surface of the water. I prayed for three nights so that I wouldn't wake up in the morning with my fishing lines under the ice. However, the level did not stop fluctuating throughout the expedition. In a winter like this, I first rob the camp so that I have somewhere to hide. It didn't take me long and I can introduce the first rod.

One assembly was directed to a greater depth in the trough and the other to the edge. It is good to save with feeding in winter, the slowed metabolism of carp does not force them to take in as much food. In order not to completely kill the place from the beginning, I sparingly added only a few handfuls to each bait. I really like to feed all over the place. For me, it is not appropriate in winter, first of all it is necessary to find out after what time and in what quantity the fish are willing to accept the bait. For assembly, I always throw only a few balls a few meters apart. To my surprise, I didn't have to wait long at all for the shot. Although I was well aware of how to dress for the cold, it did not occur to me that the whistleblowers could be cold as well. It didn't even take a few hours and the bell on my right fork was fixed. Fortunately, I was tuning the second rod and noticed that the tip of the second rod was bending slightly. I had the brake relatively tight and the line snapped. It was clear to me that this was the first shot. The tackle from the shore was successful. After several lunges, the carp wriggled out and handed its body over to the landing net. I seriously adore these winter and fall colors of the local coots. It wasn't a big fish, but it warmed up in the cold. That is, until I had to reach into the water for it. After all, I clicked one photo as a souvenir, so that when I look at it, I remember the winter in which I spent three nights in a broll.
